‚Pan & Circus‘ ist ein alter Ausdruck, der die Geschichte von Politik und Kultur geprägt hat. Aber hier ist auch das Treffen zwischen veganes Essen und unabhängige und kulturelle Veranstaltungen.
Wir beginnen mit einem Programm von Video art und experimentelle Musik, das Berlin-based Brasilianische Künstler bringt.
Auch in dem Frauen-Monat ist die Female Präsenz hier in high light, mit drei Künstlerinnen, die in Berlin ihre Arbeit entwickeln: Manu Sobral, Lola Lustosa und Laura Leiner.

‚Os Degenerados‘ (Les dégénérés), 2002, Brasil, 13’03, video by Manu Sobral and Alexandre Gwaz.

Creatures That Once Were Men‘ (or ‚Os Degenerados‘) is a film diary shot by Manu Sobral between her 19 and 21 years old,  with her beloved Super8 camera. 
It was edited manually in Rio de Janeiro. The excerpts are from Maximo Gorky's book and the soundtrack made by Alexandre Gwaz – a Brazilian experimental musician. She never saw this little movie until a few weeks ago. The people in the film are friends and other fellows she met on the road. 
The original synopsis says:
“Those people have a peculiar way of being. In an intimate fellowship they aspire to appear worse than they really are. To Gorky.„

Manu Sobral is a french-born Brazilian now in Berlin based. Studied Cinema and Anthropology in Paris 8 University and worked as assistant producer for Ad. and Cinema in Rio de Janeiro. She directed and produced several short films, documentaries, installations and music videos in Brazil and Berlin. Has won the Monumenta Prize from Unesco for her project Teu Canto de Praia. Co-founder & Curator of the EntreTodos - Human Rights Film Festival of São Paulo. As a writer she published the romance "O Estrangeiro na Gaiola“, by Edith. Co-founder of Ausland Films.

Lola Lustosa is a performer and visual artist from Rio de Janeiro, that works in Berlin and Brazil. She is also a curator of the project Musterzimmer and collaborates with the project Plataforma Berlin, an Ibero-american platform for dance, performance, installation and screen dance.

These two music videos that we’ll show in this Pan & Circus première are ‚ready made videos‘, without edition, with recovered images filmed in Super 8 by Gilvanita Mendonça, and now reedited by Grilowsky. Music from the album „Guitar Session“, Grilowsky-Leiner. 

Grilowsky is a multiartist from Recife, Brazil, ahead of award-winning collective film production company Telephone Colorido (Colorful Telephone), Grilo has created videos and movies from various genres, such as documentary, fiction, videoart and videoclips, as well as various partnerships involving human and indigenous rights groups.
As a sound artist, he has developed trails and design projects, also has an extensive phonographic production with greater focus on sound experimentation, performatic music, cd-books, synesthetic research, urban art projects and installations.

LauraL (aka Laura Leiner) is a guitarist, composer, curator and since 2004 plays in the band M.i.p.V _ Músicas intermináveis para Viagem (“Endless Music For Tripping”). 
She is an artist and researcher with a multi-disciplinary background encompassing music, performing arts, theater, photography, video, physics, chemistry and communication-journalism.
Laura was born in Brazil (Porto Alegre) and since 2009 lives in Berlin, where her Band released its third album “Modus Continuous” (2016, Yellow Castle/Solaris Empire), which is also the second CD released in Germany. Since 2013 she also presents the radio program Klang#030, actually by Reboot.fm (Berlin). Among other projects, she develops a work with the concept of concert-installation, using processed ambient sounds, analogical and digital sources, videos and looped images.
